The [Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermetic_Order_of_the_Golden_Dawn) was a [secret society](#secret society) that's interesting because of its influence (it explains a *lot* about [Wicca](#wicca), for instance) but also because it predates the influence of [Crowley](#aleister crowley) and I just can't stand his shit.
